Saturday 2 December 2017, 1.30pm to 5pm
Main Street and Grange Park, Burley
Christmas gifts – choirs – food and drink – children's rides – ukelele band – magician – Santa – craft fair – Christmas lights switch-on
NOWHERE will you find more festive cheer than in Burley-in- Wharfedale on the afternoon of its Christmas Market and Lights Switch-on! This special event is loved by thousands of locals and visitors, who come back year after year to shop, play, drink, eat and be merry with friends and family in an unbeatable atmosphere.
Gifts and Gourmet
Main Street and the adjacent Grange Park in Burley will be lined with stalls selling unique toys and gifts. And yet more beautifully handcrafted items – from jewellery to paintings – will be available at the Craft Fair inside Queen's Hall, also on Main Street.
There’ll be a wide range of delicious fare at the market – both to enjoy there and then and to take home for the big day. Mulled wine will be just one of the many drinks on offer up and down the street, as people relax and get into the swing of the fun event, run for the last 15 years by BADCOT, the Burley and District Chamber of Trade.
Magic day out
But Burley-in- Wharfedale’s Christmas afternoon is not all about shopping, which is why families love it. The market boasts performances by a number of choirs and bands, popular fairground rides, a visit from Father Christmas, and for the second year, a talented magician who really wows the crowds.
If that wasn’t enough – at 4.30pm, Burley-in- Wharfedale lights up with a dazzling array of sparkling Christmas designs as far as the eye can see, some created by children from local schools.
Organised by the Burley Community Trust, the village’s lights have been lauded up and down the valley and were described by the Lord Mayor of Bradford last year as among the best he’d ever seen.
